The City of Sterling Heights and Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce team up annually to host the “Michigan Week Luncheon,” bringing together business and community leaders for an expo, luncheon and award ceremony at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Sterling Heights.
This year’s awards and their winners are:
- Blue Ribbon Company of the Year, Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick, Inc.
- Community Partner of the Year, Macomb Chiropractic Centers, P.C.
- Dream Big Company of the Year, Dirty Paws Lounge
- Local Business of the Year, Jovan’s Steakhouse
- Manufacturer of the Year, AGS Automotive
Each year the city and chamber seek nominations for the various awards from the business community and the community at large, and a selection committee meets to review the nominations and select the winning entries.
Gordie Wilson, AEW Executive Vice President, accepted AEW’s Blue Ribbon Company award from Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor, and Chamber President and CEO Melanie Davis.
AEW was proud to be selected for the Blue Ribbon Company award, and Roy Rose, our president and CEO, represented the company in the video produced by the staff at Sterling Heights Community Relations and aired at the luncheon. Click here to view the video.
The award presenters shared that AEW sponsors and supports more than 65 community events, charitable foundations, food pantries and service clubs with volunteerism and sponsorships. We are dues-paying members of more than 30 professional organizations, chambers of commerce and service organizations. Our managers and staff also serve on many non- and not-for-profit boards and committees, in our communities.
They also quoted from the nomination form, “AEW strives to be a great civil engineering firm, and next year we will be celebrating 50 years of serving municipal, commercial and individual clients with their engineering, surveying and architectural needs. We’re locally owned and value the corporate citizenship our firm, directors and employees embrace.”
“Our employees, customers and the communities we serve are always first in our minds as we go about our daily business; we never labor with the idea of earning recognition, but we would consider it a very special honor to be awarded a Sterling Edge Business Award.”
“We proudly serve our communities and the many organizations we embrace with our talents, sponsorships and donations. We’ve practiced this stewardship for many years, always believing it to be the ‘right thing’ to do.”
AEW’s Wayne Oehmke was presented with the Lil Adams Award by Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor, Chamber President & CEO Melanie Davis, and Chamber Board Chair Nate Tallman, VP of Operations of Metro Wire and Cable Corp.
AEW’s Business Development and Public Relations representative Wayne Oehmke also received an award at the luncheon. He was awarded the 2017 “Lil Adams Award” that was created by the chamber’s board of directors to honor their long-time executive, Lil Adams, who retired in 2008 after leading the chamber for 32 years.
The award criteria for the award is “To honor Lil’s long-term service, humbleness and caring spirit, and the honoree will be an active or retired Chamber member who exhibits exemplary service to the Chamber, our communities and our fellow man.”
The presentation material shared, “One look at Wayne’s personal and professional community service over the years, and it’s clear he was an obvious choice for this award. It is with great honor that the Chamber presents him the 2017 Lil Adams Award.”
Previous Lil Adams Award winners were Clark Andrews, Barb Rossmann, Ray Lope’, Steve Messina, Roy Rose, Angela Freeman, Jim Gianakopoulos and the Ray Weingartz Family.
