The Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township (VTOT) will be built in three phases. “We will accomplish Phase I of the project in 2017 by clearing and grading the donated parcel of land, laying out the access road and parking lot on the Tribute site. In 2018 we expect to complete Phase II of the project which includes paving the access road, constructing the Tribute and holding a dedication ceremony. Phase III of the project is to raise an endowment fund to provide funds for maintenance of the Tribute in perpetuity.”
The Tribute will honor all branches of military veterans; Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines and Air Force, and it will consist of glass columns, about four inches thick by four feet wide, and 10 to 12 feet high above a granite or limestone base. Each panel will be lit from below by LED lights. A laser etched insignia, formation date and motto of each service will glow in the color of the LED lights.
The Tribute committee’s motto is “Honoring all Veterans of our Armed Forces and their role in preserving our freedom.”
AEW is honored to participate in this important project by “proving” the above ground drawings, and we’re pleased that we’re able to donate a portion of our services to help make the Veterans Tribute a reality.
Officials and representatives from the service branches were on hand for the August 30 official ground breaking ceremonies for the new Veterans Tribute.
With significant funding already in place, construction of the long-awaited project can now move forward as additional funds are still being raised for completion of the Tribute.
