AEW is Lead Engineer on the Fraser 15 Mile Road Sinkhole/Sewer Repair Project
When the sinkhole was first discovered the morning of Saturday, Dec. 24, by a homeowner at the corner of Eberlein Drive and 15 Mile Road (between Utica and Hayes Roads), in the City of Fraser, AEW was contacted by county officials to assess the situation.
The homeowner was awakened by “pounding noises” in their home, and was unable to open their garage door; the house was actually “sinking” into the ground, and the sinkhole appeared to be getting larger. There is an 11-foot wide wastewater sewer line approximately 55 feet underground that appears to be causing the sinkhole to further develop.
There are 22 homes on Eberlein, and three of them are uninhabitable at this time. Work continues around the clock by AEW personnel, and a virtual army of contractors and sub-contractors to restore power, utilities and roadways for local homeowners and businesses, while at the same time working to get to the impacted sewer and make necessary repairs.
