AEW provided surveying services for multiple contractors for 7.09 miles of concrete freeway reconstruction and the rehabilitation of 37 bridges on I-96 from I-275 to US-24 (Telegraph Road). Services included the creation and generation of 3D modeling surfaces for the clay grade, slopes, and final pavement placement prior to construction. Model creation was a team effort that blended the experiences of the engineer design staff, surveying department, and the contractors involved. The 3D modules were used in the “stringless” operations of sub-grade preparation and final concrete surface placement.
During the reconstruction of the new freeway, staking was provided for storm sewer, wall placement, sanitary sewer, the paving control network, concrete barrier wall, freeway lighting, ITS, and curb and gutter. 37 bridges were rehabilitated in various levels of construction, ranging from complete removal and replacement, to asphalt overlays and patching. Surveying services were used in the staking removals, alignments, decking, abutments, and paving of all bridges.
