The City of Pleasant Ridge worked with the Woodward Action Association to conduct a traffic study on Main Street between Woodward Avenue and EB 10 Mile Road / I-696 service drive, and along the I-696 service drive between southbound Woodward Avenue and Main Street. The purpose of the study was to see if reducing the number of lanes would be feasible, while slowing traffic speeds and making the areas safer for pedestrians.
AEW provided construction engineering services on this project, which consisted of installing temporary lane reductions on the areas mentioned above. The lane reductions were in place for one month while the traffic study was underway. Once the field work for the traffic study was complete, the lanes were placed back to their original configurations. The project required close coordination with MDOT, as they are the maintaining agency for Woodward Avenue and the I-696 service drive. The results of the traffic study will be analyzed and used for future decision making on the traffic configurations.
