The City of Troy Parks Department wanted to replace and expand their shared use pathway at Jaycee Park.
The expansion included expanding the pathway through the wooded section of the park and incorporated a 60-foot bridge and a 60-inch culvert at the drain crossings. Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc. (AEW) was commissioned by the City of Troy to provide design and construction services for the project.
Our Services
Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc. (AEW, Inc.) provided the following services:
- Civil and Structural Engineering
- Hydraulic Modeling
- Hydraulic Reporting
- Design
- Contract Administration
Project Challenges
AEW assisted in coordination of the bridge and culvert design between Oakland County Water Resource Commissioner (WRC), Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and the City of Troy. During construction, a side slope of the drain failed, causing emergency design and permitting of the additional rip-rap of the drain banks.
Our Solutions
AEW was able to design the bridge abutments outside of the floodplain, eliminating the need to involve FEMA in the permitting process.
Stronger Community
Through this project, the City of Troy was able to provide a quality space for residents to enjoy nature by strolling through the meandering trail near the Nelson and Fetterly Drains. The expanded pathway provides access to wooded areas that were inaccessible from the main park prior to the project.
Jaycee Park is the third pathway project completed by the City over the last five years.
