25 Mile Road Pedestrian Bridge
Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc. (AEW) collaborated with Shelby Township, the Macomb County Department of Roads, and the Michigan Department of Transportation to design and install an 8-foot by 70-foot prefabricated steel truss pedestrian bridge. This bridge, located on the north side of 25 Mile Road, crosses the Lawson Drain west of Van Dyke Avenue in Shelby Township. The project also included the construction of a concrete sidewalk to enhance pedestrian connectivity.
AEW provided construction engineering services, overseeing earthwork, concrete pouring for the sidewalk, riprap installation, and landscaping. The bridge’s fabrication required a seven-month lead time, and its installation necessitated traffic lane closures on 25 Mile Road. To mitigate these challenges, AEW coordinated closely with contractors and managed vegetation removal for the sidewalk, followed by planting grass seeds and mulch for restoration. The new bridge fills an existing sidewalk gap, offering neighborhoods north of 25 Mile Road greater access to local schools and serving as a shared-use path for walking, cycling, and other outdoor activities.
