Grand Avenue Reconstruction

The Grand Avenue Pavement Reconstruction project in Mount Clemens, MI involved removing and reconstructing 0.49 miles of hot mix asphalt and concrete pavement, storm drainage systems, sidewalks, curb ramps, and concrete driveways, along with installing permanent pavement markings, traffic signage, and other related improvements. AEW provided surveying, civil engineering, and construction services to complete the project. Challenges included discovering an original brick roadway beneath the existing surface outside soil boring locations, managing traffic near a school, and addressing limited residential driveways that led to parking issues. Solutions included removing all brick as encountered, staging construction and detours to minimize school disruptions, and directing residents to park on side streets. As a result, Mount Clemens now benefits from a fresh roadway surface on Grand Avenue with improved safety and access for homes and the school, strengthening the community.
