Shelby Township Water Reservoir
AEW worked with the Charter Township of Shelby to complete a 3.5MG Water Reservoir. After careful consideration and investigative analysis, it was determined that the installation of a Water Reservoir Facility, at a strategic location, could mitigate water usage exceedances and serve to lower water purchase rates from GLWA, by over $3 million per year, based on current GLWA rate methodology, thus benefiting all Township customers.
Challenges encountered during the design phase included:
- Whether the existing 24-inch HDPE pipe connections could withstand the impact
- Water Transmissions Mains in vicinity of tank
- Availability of Power
- Creating the AWWA D110 Prestressed Concrete Tank
- Sensitivity to the adjacent residential area
