AEW is honored to receive award

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC) held their annual “Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards” ceremony at the Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids on Saturday, March 11, and our AEW team was honored to receive an “Engineering Honorable Conceptor Award” for our work on Shelby Township’s beautiful and functional new Library.

The new state-of-the-art 26,400 sq. ft. Library is located in the Township’s growing municipal complex, and currently serves 35,000 registered users with a collection of 110,000 items. It’s the perfect venue to serve as a community anchor for formal and informal learning, and features innovative technology access, workforce development, and community engagement opportunities.

The new Library was designed with sustainable building materials and a high-efficacy building envelope that conserves energy resources and reduces costs. It features more than 200 panes of electrochromic SageGlass windows, an Interactive Everbright Wall, Tech Labs, and a one-of-a-kind 30-foot Interactive Children’s Tree with a “Magic Book.”

Working with a dedicated team of Township officials, AEW provided Architectural services, along with Interior Design and Structural Engineering. Also participating were Bernco, Inc., General Contractor, Peter Basso Associates, Inc., Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing; Bluewater Tech, Custom Designed Technology, Nowak & Fraus, Civil Engineering and Surveying, Library Design Associates, Inc., Library Specialist, and Wakely Associates, Inc., Architectural Sub-consultant.
